I grew up on a farm in South Dakota. Our farm was homesteaded by our great grandparents in the late 1800's. How they survived the hardships of the earlier days is beyond my knowledge! I do my best to understand and appreciate the work, dedication and commitment given, the price paid, for the beauty we enjoy.
When I was 9 years old our family's lives changed, my life changed. I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior and Lord of my life. At just about the same time, my family was introduced to organic foods, organic farming and a new way of life. It was 1969. Organic and health foods were not popular, actually, barely heard of, in the rural Dakotas.
My Mom began raising herbs and healthy kids! My parents purchased goats and I was the first goat milker of the family. :) We were farming about 1000 acres which we were now cutting the thistles, pulling the weeds and picking the potatoes bugs by hand in place of using toxic chemicals. We found out what it takes and what it gives to live healthy.
I am grateful for the the training and experience of learning how to do what God has for us rather than going with what is popular or accepted at the time. Also I am thankful to understand the work that goes into raising good, real foods to nourish the mind, body and soul. I love working in the dirt it truly is good for one's soul. Needless to say, I don't waste food. :)
Learning how to make the most use of our healthy foods and herbs, preparedness and storage, and taking care of the soil, water and our bodies in a way that honors God, in this beautiful creation He has given us to enjoy, is truly what I am here to share.
